I was diagnosed with haveing a Vit D def 3 weeks ago I was also diagnosed with Chiari Malformation I. I am not sure what sysmptoms are from what. Can anyone tell me there most common Vit D def symptoms. Is there alot of pain, headachs involved?
I liked this page on Vitamin D- it seemed to have more information than some of the others I looked at. I recently added vit. D to my regime- I take a liquid supplement called, Liquid Sunshine~ because I'm in menopause now.
I also have what is sometimes called an Aquired Chiari Malformation- which means I have the same symtpoms as a person with regular Chiari but my skull is the right size. I have hindbrain herniation though, and the same myriad of symptoms from when the brain stem is compressed. There are lots of good sites for Chiari symptoms and although discerning what is from Chiari and what isn't is always a challenge- the vit. D aspect shouldn't be too major I would think. (but what do I know? ") All I know is that even though the top sites will give you a half dozen symptoms for Chiari there are really over 42 according to my Neurosurgeon.
The main and first symptom usually seen is a headache, typically stemming from the base of the skull, shooting into the eyes or something near there.
Then there are swallowing problems, Nausea and vomiting and weakness in xtremities
confusion and mental fog dizziness numbness and tingling (where depends on if your Chiari is accompanied by anything else) the Chiari affects the upper body more than the lower but is frequently accompanied by a Tethered Cord and or Syringomyelia.
Anyway, an easy way to learn about Chiari is to visit the Chiari Institute's site~ http://www.chiariinstitute.com/
They have a slew of videos that are very informative and handy if you can get past Dr. B's accent!
There's also http://www.chiariconnectioninternational.com/ for easy to understand things- and an-e-list support group that you can join and learn more than you ever wanted to know... You might want to look up Chiari Patient Education Sheet on the CCI site.
You can also google up ASAP and WACMA- both big Chiari groups and sites online.
well actually i didnt get any headaches. the most prominent symptom i had was pain in both wrists. then it was my left knee, my right toe, my left hip (especially in the morning because i usually sleep on my left side) and the middle of my back especially if i tried to prop myself up from the bed to look at my alarm clock for example, or when putting on a jacket. but i ll tell you what: i took vit-d and calcium (religiously) for 3 months and i feel a million trillion times better. i also made sure that i had enough sum exposure during that time. so good luck to you.
I have been taking vitamin D for at least 10 years. One would have to take a foolish anount of Vitamin D to encounter side affects. I am at 2000 i.u. per day , no side affects. I believe that an adult human can handle up to 5000 i.u. per day with no side affects , but i'm niether a dr. nor a nutritionist , i'm anti-drug , and I read books. Sacosam
