Hi... my Dr just a started me on low doses of Effexor and Vistaril... says it will help with anxiety and sleep... I've never taken either before but was on Klonopin, Seroquel, Remeron, and Abilify before... which was working as far as anxiety and sleep... of course he doesn't want to start me on those after being off since last summer... but still I hate trying things that don't work... any info or suggestions? I barely sleep a few hours a night and can't stand being exhausted like this...
Ali; The one that has the more sedating factor in it is the Vistaril that is the one you would want to take at bedtime. And my Effexor XR 150 I find after a few days on it that it was keeping me from sleeping so I changed it to the morning so it would not add to my Insomnia. I have found these to be pretty effective for myself. just for the record if you start the Effexor in the morning sometimes you may feel more sedated at first but that goes away and it feels more like a simulation so it's just best to take in the morning and if you don't know if you are going to get any side effects normally that is during the first 2 weeks and many times after the first week they start to get better, and by the end of the couple of weeks you should hardly feel any side effects and another week or two you well start feeling the benefits of the medication. Also, remember on the Effexor type medication you take those always about the same time each day so you don't get your level bouncing around and the same if you decide to take in the morning it's best to keep it there. But also my friend if you take these two new medications at different times and one does not agree with you. It is kind of easier to figure out which one when you're taking them 12 hours apart. But compared to all the stuff you were taking you should be just fine but just wanted to remind you about how you have some weird effects from the medications like Effexor XR But they go away. And because you have been off all meds for a while they may hit you a bit stronger so you may want to start the Effexor on the morning that you really don't have to work or run around because the first few doses can hit you harder before it eases up. But really because you're having a hard time sleeping now you could start to take the Vistaril anytime to try and get some rest. BUT REMEMBER don't increase it without the doctor okaying it they get strange if we run out too fast. But it's better on things like the Vistaril to keep 3 to 5 days before any increase. Feel free to write back anytime if you need some help with anything we have some real nice people here. That you well know by their answer if you listen to that or get a few more. hope you get a food night sleep. Chuck1957
