for 7 years. diagnosed at the Mayo Clinic. will noratriptyline help with my pain? and also how much would be recomended? I am giving up on any hope. I have chronic pain everyday. Thank you for any input that any one can share. I also have pain in my throat and esphogus. I can hardley eat food. I live on a very bland diet.Any other help will be appreciated. Debbie
Nortriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant. Sometimes doctors will prescribe antidepressants to treat "off label" conditions. For instance, I take amitriptyline for peripheral neuropathy. It might help you, and then it might not. All you can do is try it. I was surprised when the Ami helped my PN.
Have you been to a pain management doctor? Please correct me if I'm not understanding correctly, but I believe the sacral nerves control the pelvic area and any pain, but the throat and esophagus are controlled by the lumbar nerves. Since these nerves have become hypersensitive, I wonder if an epidural might not ease your pain so that you can eat. Have you seen a dietician? I'm sorry you are so miserable, Debbie. Don't give up. Ask for a referral to pain management. PM can do more to help your pain than just meds. Just a thought...
Feel better soon!
