Hello! I just recently saw a psychiatrist for the first time and she recommended I take Viibryd and wean off of the Sertraline I have been on for years. I have been diagnosed with MDD and major anxiety. I am still in the first week of the 10 mg sample pack, but I have a ton of anxiety since starting it, more than I had before. Does this subdue after a while? I have also been prescribed some Xanax but I don't want to depend on that as a crutch. Are the long term benefits of Viibryd worth it? Also, it is INCREDIBLY expensive even after insurance so I am wrestling with that fact as well. Thank you for any info!
If Sertraline was working for you why the switch? Sometimes pharmaceutical reps will supply doctor with samples and incentives to prescribe new meds. I am not saying this is the case. You may want to ask him why he switched you and what he thinks are the added benefits of doing so. You have the right as a patient to ask questions that affect you health care. Viibryd is a potent antidepressant and it is suggested that it works well for severe depression but takes a while to kick in.
No one knows what the long term benifits are with it being a new drug without a long term history.
It may become cost prohibited for you, you can also bring this up with doctor.
Hope you find some answers soon :)
lilabird; Hope this finds you hopefully, And you well get an honest answer from me or us. Just some people are a bit abrupt if they don't have the same problems.
YES what is happening to you right now and well continue for up to 2 weeks from the time you started this medication is it actually INCREASES some of the symptoms that the doctor is trying to help, But about 10 to 14 days from when you started you well notice them get better and better, By the way, this is in the same family of medications as Zoloft but stronger and more effective for many. it is called the SSRI family of antidepressants. okay as you continue with this many people can start to feel a bit better from week 4 through 6 it is very important that you take this medication about the same time each day. then as you continue to take this by the time you are up to 6 to 8 weeks you well be at the full blood level of the medication. Now, remember if the doctor bumps up the mg of the medication it may through you off a few days. And you are very lucky the doctor you have has a heart and gave you some Xanax to help you through the worst part of this and to use as needed. Don't worry too much you can work your way off of Xanax easy enough and hopefully all you well need is the Viibryd So pretty much this is the way it works and what you can expect while you're going on it. AND as you know we are all different and really don't know just how well it well works until you have reached a full blood level.
ALSO. at the top of this page is a search bar. Type in the name of this medication many things drop down or you have to hit enter. But there are many ways to help you pay for this from the companies that make it. I want to see if the one I was able to copy on my mouse is still there so I am going to try and put it right here.( Viibryd Prices, Coupons & Patient Assistance Programs

I hope this helps you out some at least you know more about it
Also on the Xanax, you take that just as the doctor say and don't try to wait too long or if nothing else take 1/2 of the Xanax and you can always take the other half if you're worried about it but I really would not sound like you have a pretty smart doctor. Hope this helps you. And you get to feeling better very soon. Have a great day. Chuck1957
I've been on Viibryd for about 15 months and was having bad anxiety when I started that caused me to want to give up a few times, and I ended up confirming with my doctor that I could up my dose slower than the sample pack does. So I split my 10 mg pills in half, and it took me some time longer than the expected amount of time to get to 40 mg but for me it ended up being worth it. Good luck <3
