Victoza is used to help treat type II Diabetes. It works by increasing insulin release and therefore decreasing the amount of glucose in the blood sugar. It works well when the blood sugar is above a certain level, then stops working once it is normalized. This means there is less of a risk of low blood sugar. But also because of this, it does not help with weight loss.
I personally wouldn't consider victoza as a first line treatment option for diabetes, but if your doctor is prescribing it for her then likely the other options have been considered. There are no worries about heart problems or asthma as Victoza works locally in the pancreas only.
