I am 24 years old and I have had panic attacks since I was 19. I cannot do anything. I am trying everyday to get my life back, and I'm hoping this medication can work. I don't know what to do. I have experienced with other anxiety medications and they have made me more panicky or not work at all. I have agoraphobia, anxiety, depression, and panic attacks. No matter where I go, every doctor and psychiatrists and any other professionals say that my anxiety is off the charts serious. I really hope this medication will work!
Don't be scared, I am sure the doctors you are seeing are trying their best to find a medication that suits you. Not all medications work for everyone but I am sure there is one our there suited to your needs. If this one doesn't work then keep hopeful that the next one may. It is a case of trial and error as everyone reacts differently to medication. Trust in your doctors that they are doing what they think is best. All the best drd1989, I hope it works out for the best.
You'll be starting at a low dose presumably which will slowly be increased until it reaches therapeutic level for you. You may experience some side effects in the beginning; most notably will be the possibility of heightened anxiety at first. This will subside in the first couple weeks. You may also have mild headache and diarrhea. Not to worry, stay hydrated, and this too will subside. It will take upwards of a month for the effects to reach maximum, so be patient and give it a try. We are here to be supportive as it goes.
This was a great medication for me, but it caused high blood pressure once I got to the higher dosages. I didn't have any of the other side effects.
I wouldn't put too much into doctors saying your anxiety is super high. Sometimes the line between making the patient feel listened to, or that their concerns are being heard, can get blurred. I can imagine that your symptoms are driving you buggy - that's the only indicator you should use. Just trust that others have found help and that you will also - and you will!
