Have spinal stenosis (age68) failed back srg in '07..had severe nerve pain for 4yrs ..it went away for 4 yrs and is now suddenly back..dx with peripheral neuropathy & had all txs & drugs ..wanted to know if venlafaxine is used for nerve pain as is dulaxitne (cymbalta) is too expensive
My love; It is not really the same action as Cymbalta. But for years now they have found that medications like Venlafaxine and other anti depressants help many people with chronic pain so it is sure worth a try. They don't list it for this reason it's a off- label use by doctors for years good luck
It has helped me with both anxiety and neuropathy. My doctor has me on low dose of 75mg per day.
I am also on clonazapam 3 1mg daily. Together they reduced my anxiety level quit significantly. I was origininaly on gabapentine with no luck 1.2 grams per day.
If you are new to these meds you have to give it some time ssnri can increase you anxiety in the short tèrm term
I know that venlafaxine is used for depression and various anxiety disorders.
I also have spinal stenosis, peripheral neuropathy and degenerative disc disease and I take Gabapentin, similar depression meds (Prozac) etc. it's a rough diagnosis. I went from being a exercise fanatic to limited mobility and a limp. I certainly hope venlafaxine will help you. Feel free to ask any questions as we have similar problems!
