I get constant sores in my mouth on my cheeks, tounge, gums, and roof of my mouth. I take Valtrex for cold sore outbreaks and it really works for me. My doctor so far has told me you can't get herpes in your mouth so Valtrex won't help. But I know the swollen painful blisters in my mouth are caused by the herpes virus... My question is can I ask my doctor about suppressive therapy the sores are constant I have not been more than a week without an outbreak in 4 yrs. Its kinda destroying my life.
U can go to ur dentist. Perhaps he/she will prescribe valtrex for u. U may need a new doctor who will listen to ur concerns. Also, u could insist that ur Doctor run tests on ur infections. Herpes can be inside the mouth.
In the mean time u can ask if u can take lysine tablets. Look up the dosage for out breaks, cuz I only know maintenance dose is 500- 1000 mg daily. Do not eat foods high in arginine, such as nuts, seeds, oats and chocolate, during an outbreak. Eat fish, yogurt, chicken, fruits and veggies.
