I’m 10 years into recovery from alcoholism and have discovered the valerian root extract I take has ethanol as an extraction solvent 70% v/v. Does this mean I’m consiming alcohol?
Yes, you are consuming alcohol but the amount is absolutely tiny.
I’m in recovery too. I don’t have experience with valerian but I know several alcoholics who drink kombucha just fine. However, when I drink kombucha, my body knows there’s alcohol and I have a head rush, so I stay away. With the knowledge you have no, if you get some good feeling because you know there’s alcohol, avoid it. If nothing changes, you’re probably fine.
I am a big fan of valerian for anxiety relief and especially as nightime aid to promote sleepiness. I avoid the alcohol extracts because they almost always cause acid reflux which can affect my sleep. Have you tried the alcohol free capsules?
Two NOW brand 500 mg work well for me.
