I just found out about valerian root and was wondering how much I should be taking ,I wanted kavalactone but can't find it in my local stores.i am suffering horribly from anxiety and depression and i already have a tolerance to oxycodone( 20mg to40mg may miss a day or two )and Xanax (2mg to 4mg a day may miss a day or two) I want to quit all narcotics but am not sure how to use these home remedies safely.i tried one 530mg with 1 1/2 of my sleep aids.i slept very hard woke up with a little headache but got my test so I'm very happy. I usually wake up at least 7×. Can someone please help me get better,i know I can do this because I have a very strong desire to do it.Thank you
Hi, AR! You need to treat these medications as what they are ~ medications that contain drugs. Consult with a pharmacist, a naturopath, or the qualified representative at a natural or whole foods shoppe for an accurate dosage and directions. Be sure they are aware of the other drugs you are taking as everything you're putting into your body is a depressant.
I've been taking two capsules of Valerian Root (wow, that one reeks horribly!) at bedtime, and anytime during the day when I feel wonky. It doesn't really make me sleepy... But my tolerance is high... I also take Oregon's Wild Harvest (brand name) Skull Cap, Ashwagandha, and Stress Guard, which has the two above, plus L-Theamine.
I also take (at least) two sublingual vitamin B-12, and two B-6 daily.
I've bought some lemon balm extract, and Passionflower (the latter is also the Oregon's Wild Harvest brand), but I haven't tried eother yet. I was dealing with withdrawal from both vicodin and xanax simultaneously, and was desperate to find anything herbal/natural to offset symptoms.
Immodium really helps with opioid withdrawal, as it is a type of opiate- BUT it doesn't cross the blood-brain barrier. It has helped me tremendously.
Amazon has TONS of supplements, and decent prices. There is no store in my area that I can get these either.
