with Herpes, but have never had an outbreak?
What did your doctor tell you? If it were me, I would take it if I were sexually active or not weather I have had an outbreak or not. It is taken to supress an outbreak and if you have never had an outbreak, you don't want one!!
Believe me, I know ppl with this, and the outbreaks are not something that you want to go through if you can prevent it!!
I didn't realize someone could be diagnosed without an outbreak because the only way I could be diagnosed way by way of a skin "biopsy" being taken. It was incredibly painful bc they scoop into the sores with a scalpel like tool and then swab it for cultures.
It makes my toes curl just thinking about it.
I was offered the option of taking the anti-viral every day of my life but was told it would 1)not make me less contagious 2)nor would it stop an outbreak from occurring.
Instead, I have a bottle of valacyclovir in the medicine cabinet so that if I feel an outbreak coming on, I can take it and hopefully shorten its stay.
I don't feel okay about taking an an extra Rx everyday if it doesn't really offer any protection. It could make an outbreak be not as atrocious but I really think taking something once you feel it coming on makes the most sense. But that is based on my one experience with this one doctor.
The best of luck to you.
