what if u were prescribed synthroid but u do not have a thyroid problem? what would it do to your body? im 32 yrs old an was told by my doctor that i have a thyroid problem..underactive. i was 121 lbs 2 mnths ago wen i started it an 8 weeks later i am 106lbs and i look very sickly. i believe i never had a thyroid problem to begin with. my height is 5 foot 6 inches. i look like a skeleton.
From what little you are saying about your health, the thyroid can react like this with little or no warning. A blood test is what confirms the diagnosis.mi would hope that you were also checked for diabetes as well. Since you were prescribed medication, it is essential to take it exactly the way it is prescribed. For years I had no thyroid problems. Then one day I did. The blood test confirmed it. Disease of the thyroid simply happens. It also can run in families. It may indicate other hormonal problems as well. Please continue to work with an Endocrinologist so that you may have this explained to you. there is no other treatment for thyroid problems except thyroid medication by prescription. depending upon your TSH levels you may lose or gain weight. Be aware there are no other methods to treat this condition such as holistic or herbal remedies... It is life long and people do very well on medication. Without medication one will die. I believe that would be my fear losing weight so quickly as it should be yours.
Please do some reading on this subject so you can ask the important questions when you see the doctor again. And be sure to contact the doctor about the weight loss with a phone call. A symptom like that is very important for your well being. Mine was not functioning and it was removed. Mine had a cancer which we did not know. This happens from time to time. It is essential to treat it. Your moods and general feeling of wellness will improve. Until then you may be very tired, nervous, angry or tense.
