The day after I had unprotected sex I went to the clinic. Instead of getting the day after pill I just got the depo shot. Does this mean I shouldnt get pregnant. Does getting the depo shot replace getting a day after pill. Or should I have asked for both the day after pill and the depo at the same time. Will I be pregnant now?
You should have used emergency contraception, & then waited to ensure you weren't pregnant, before getting the Depo Provera shot.
Depo Provera is released gradually into the body, & is therefore not a big enough, immediate dose, to prevent pregnancy.
There is also mixed medical debate about the harm that Depo Provera may do to a pregnancy. The clinic should have asked you if there was a chance of pregnancy, before giving you your first shot.
It takes 7 days for Depo Provera to start working, when you have it outside of the first 5 days of your period.
