I had a thyroid test dune 3 weeks ago and it came back as 5.20, a doctor told me this is way to high, and i have an under active thyroid. I went to another doctor who told me it was fine, i got some thyroid tablets, but have since had them taken off me.So i went on to the internet and have had to buy my own tablets, t4. Can anyone tell me if they have had any problems like i have, and what your thyroid should read
They have recently lowered the normal values for the TSH which is why the confusion. Go with the first dr he knows what he's doing, you'll feel better. Normal is now considered to be 0.3-3. Who took the thyroid pills away? You should be on them. If you are able you should see an endocrinologist, they are the specialists who deal with the thyroid.
Hi and welcome! I agree with Kaismama and you should go back to your first dr. It took years for my under active thyroid to be properly diagnosed since they keep changing what they believe the normal level range should be. And as you've already experienced, different doctors still have differing opinions on it. These differing opinions can take place from doctors in the same office (as it was in my case) so try to see the exact same dr if there is more than one in the office
The difference I felt physically after starting the thyroid meds was unbelievable. Even though it took over a year to get to the right balance, I still felt so much better during the process it was worth enduring the blood tests and waiting, and more blood tests and waiting, etc... I have blood tests every 90 days now because of different medications that I'm on so they automatically go ahead and do a reading on my tsh levels also. That's helpful to me since I've reached the point where I only see my endo dr once a year normally. So if I were you, I'd hotfoot it back to the first dr and let him help get you back in balance. I wish you the best of luck and please keep us posted on your progress.
Hello. First, do not self mediate a thyroid problem. It is technical and can cause harm to you. Second, stop buying off the Internet! Can be almost anything in those pills. Very, very dangerous.
The range should be as stated above, .3 to 3.0 . the formula for dose is based on weight, current levels, and what makes you feel ok. You and no one here are qualified to do this. Get an appointment with an endocrinologist. This doc will find out why you have a problem. It could be Undiagnosed cancer, goiter developing, pituitary problem, and so forth.
Finally do not seek out so called natural thyroid medicine. I just talked to my doc on this yesterday. She said these sources vary in strength and are very vulnerable to prions, a special organism that can kill you by attacking the brain. Mad cow disease is the familiar name for it. This disease is showing up more frequently in canada where the thyroid med is made. It has no cure.
be smart and see a good doctor. Once you get to the bottom of this you will start feeling better. I had my thyroid removed because we believed its malfunction might be due to cancer. It was. Only the surgeon could find that as it was micro cell cancer and not detectable from a needle biopsy.
Hope you find a physician who will listen and help you through this.
