I have been on Ultracet for 3 years and I just recently been put on Adderall XR?
Ultracet contains a combination of tramadol, a narcotic-like pain reliever, and acetaminophen which increases the effects of tramadol. Ultracet is used to treat moderate to severe pain.
Adderall XR contains amphetamine and dextroamphetamine which are central nervous system stimulants that affect chemicals in the brain and nerves that contribute to hyperactivity and impulse control. Adderall XR is used to treat narcolepsy and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
According to the Drugs.com interaction checker caution with this combination is advised. Tramadol may cause seizures and combining it with other medications that can also cause seizures such as dextroamphetamine may increase that risk. Check with your doctor about your specific risk and if your doctor is happy with the combination then I would recommend that you spread your doses out as far as practical.
