Ulcerative Colitis - I've had UC for approx. 10 years. Have been on asacol and taking prednisone to stop flares but recently have been in flare lasting more than 6 months and doctor has added imuran, began at 25 mg now at 50 mg and still no relief. Next step to start taking prednisone and increase imuran to a theraputic level. If all fails, next step Remicad... very nervous after reading all the blogs about this treatment. I'm interested in hearing from anyone who has been using this drug
Has anyone tried Remicade for ulcerative colitis?

Hi,sorry to hear your health is still bad after being on steroids. I have been where you are now. I was steroids for a year before my consultant added imuran, but he started me with the full dose and stated it normally takes approx 12 weeks or longer for it to kick into your system. When i was in hospital with a bad flare i asked the doctors is it possible to try remicade,i was told it is for Crohns disease not UC. That i would not benefit from it and no way would they try it on UC pateints. I think it due to where you live, some people have stated they have been prescribed it immediately but they live 100 miles away from me or so. Im not sure where you live,i am from the midlands,uk and i been told it is not a option. But for the people who have had it state this does work for them,in effect it is your body and how it reacts to the treatment.
My mom was on remicad for her crohn's. she had great results while on the infusion. After about the second infusion she had a sever allergic reaction to it. The Dr. tried loading her up on allergy meds before the next infusion unfortunately it did not work and the Dr. cancelled all remicad treatment. I really hope it works for you. My mom was very upset when she could no longer receive treatment. She said she was pleased with the results. Not to be to graphic, it was the first tiime in a very long time, like years she had a solid bowl movement.
The best of luck
