my dog was spade and given tramadol for pain she consequently developed loose bloody bowels after taking this drug she had no previous history of gastrointestinal problem.
No tramadol after a spaying shouldnt cause loose bloody stools. You need to call your Vet. You may need to get a sample of her stools so they can look at it under the microscope to see if she picked something up like hookworms. Tramadol is an opioid like pain medicine, not an anti-inflammatory so it wouldnt cause bleeding. I had one old dog who took it for arthritis for the last year of his life and another who took it after neutering and major surgery to remove a fist sized growth from his back and neither ever had any problems with this drug. Being spayed would not cause bloody stools either unless damage was somehow done to the bowel so you need to contact your Vet and let her/him know what is happening with your dog.
Call your Vet immediately, Tramadol makes them a little drowsy but does not cause bloody stools, especially loose. It is very likely during the surgery the Vet could have nicked the small intestine or piece of bowel has formed and adhesion causing injury to it. The body reacts to blood in the bowel by expelling it, it behaves like an irritant, and any sign of blood post-op is a sign of a bigger problem. Dogs can get twisted adhesion and diverticulitis just like humans from surgery to the abdomen, but if it is a nicked bowel it's more life threatening because infection can set in and lead to Peritonitis.
Hi, sometimes after a (routine but major) surgery such as being speyed, diarrhoea can occur. In rare cases it is accompanied by a small amount of blood. The GA and other drugs can play a part in this. Your dog does need to get a post op' check carried out so the vet can decide if this is a serious or simple complication. The Tramadol may not play a part in this, it could be coincidental, but best to be safe than sorry, and mention anything you are concerned about...
