I've been fighting this UTI since April only to find it is caused by resistant e coli. Anyone else used this drug for this problem. Outcome?
No I haven't, but thank you - I'll check into it for my next UTI. I get them all the time, along with almost constant bladder pain. Do you know if they cultured your urine and tested to see if the e-coli responded to this antibiotic? I would think so. I am so sick of the UTIs and bladder pain and now have to stay on a daily dose of Macrobid or I can't stand the bladder pain. My urologist told me they suspect there is a new bacteria out there that they can't detect yet (and there is no treatment for yet - great, just great). I heard of a Urologist in Wash, DC that is culturing urine specimens in those with recurrent UTIs for two months to see what might grow, given time. No lab will do that - takes too much time. Hopefully this Dr will find something that benefits us all - we can only hope and pray! Thanks again for the tip on this antibiotic. Anymore I do my own research and hand it to my doctor.
They don't know what to try anymore but I can't just accept that - I've got grandchildren, and they don't understand grandma running to the bathroom every time a drop of urine hits that sensitive bladder and makes me yelp in pain! Hope this helps you - in fact, please come back and give us an update, ok? I'll be looking for it! - ElizaJane
Hi Alice, so sorry to hear about your constant UTI's. I have the same problem. They have found out that because of the constant antibiotic use in poultry in this country that there is a rampant UTI that women get, that is drug resistant. It is the SAME e-coli infection found in the poultry who get the antibiotics to keep them healthy, and grow faster. This has made national news, (in fact, I learned about it on Diane Saywer), I was appalled!! I was in my SIXTH week of a UTI, with no end in site, and here was this article. You might want to have your doctor test you on that strain of the infection, though I couldn't tell you how they do it. Your doctor should know about it though. To learn more about it, google "urinary tract infection chicken". there will be a plethora of articles about this awful situation.
Best of luck to you!! I hope that you feel better soon.
