... and my left side of neck is swollen. I think it's from the meds? I was taking Nature Thyroid, that was not helping. I just want to feel normal again. Trying to kick the habit...
Hello. Your TSH reading is to be between .3 and 3.0 per the latest recommendation by the AMA. As we are all different, you may have to lower the TSH more. I feel best under .5. Others may feel fine at 7. When you are at the right amount for you, you will feel much better.
In addition it is important to take calcium. Take it four hours after the thyroid med. be sure the med is taken after awakening with a full glass of water. No juice, coffee, tea. Half an hour later you can eat and drink other beverages.
Are you seeing an endocrinologist? Have they taken X-rays or ultrasound of your thyroid? What other tests have been done?
When the thyroid is off balance, there can be anxiety along with other symptoms.
Since you are a smoker, I would be very serious about checking out the swollen area and being sure I had regular chest X-rays. Cancer of the throat and lungs are common with long term smokers. Better to be safe. Less anxiety.
