I'm 19 and in college and I've been on birth control for almost a year now, but have only been sexually active for about a month. I am having the hardest time trusting my birth control and it is ruining the experience for both me and my boyfriend. On top of the birth control, I also make my boyfriend wear a condom and pull out. If the condom breaks or anything like that, I spend the following days worrying myself sick. I'm not sure what to do anymore, but I know it shouldn't be like this.
If you are taking them correctly they are more then 99% effective. They were developed so women could relax and enjoy sex. When you're on the pill you do not ovulate, so you can't get pregnant. The only time you need a condom to protect from pregnancy is if you are on antibiotics. I was around when they first came out and we thought they were THE answer. We trusted them and never questioned like you girls do. When someone says they got pregnant on the pill, they either were on antibiotics or they weren't taking them right.
