Is Trintellix the same as Brintellix?

Official Answer by Drugs.com 17 Aug 2016

Yes, both drugs are generically known as vortioxetine but only Trintellix is commercially available.

There was confusion between the name "Brintellix" (vortioxetine), which is an antidepressant, and "Brilinta" (ticagrelor), an anti-platelet (a type of blood-thinner). Due to the potential for errors resulting from name confusion, the FDA changed Brintellix’s name to "Trintellix" in June 2016.

Patients will see the new name "Trintellix" on their prescription bottles, but no other changes were made to package insert, packaging, or the way the medicine looks.
