I was diagnosed about 4 years ago with TN, but one thing that bothers me about the diagnosis is that my pain episodes often last for 20 minutes or more, sometime extrems for 20 minutes then reduced for a further hour or so. Whenever I read about TN the literature always mentions 'a few minutes' of pain. Does anyway with the same diagnosis have similar length episodes? I still can't be sure I have TN, or something similar. Thanks, look forward to hearing from you!
Hi there, I too was diagnosed with TN. In my case my pain episodes lasted about 20-40 minutes with the actual electrical stabbing only lasting seconds at a time. Those seconds were high intensity pain. I was prescribed tegretol 200mg twice a day. These episodes have come and gone many times since I was diagnosed. I also found that if I had pain closed to my mouth, I could floss and use orajel which would provide instant relief. I hope this helps some.
