The pack says to start on the first Sunday of my period of within the first 24 hours of starting. Can I take it any day of the month? I read online that I can start it any day. What would be the side effects or disadvantages if I started any day of the month without being on my period?
Dear Stephanie, you should start the tri sprintec while on your cycle, it will really mess your cycle up if you don't. You will bleed when you are not supposed to and risk getting pregnant if you are sexually active, before you an start them if you don't start them on your cycle. There is something about the hormone levels during your cycle that is the reason the direct s say to always start any birth control pill during the cycle. It may say you are safe from pregnancy after 1 week of active pills, BUT, if you really want to be absolutely sure you won't get pregnant, make sure you take all 21 active pills correctly before you stop using a back up method. And then you are safe, even while on the in actives. Some women have break thru spotting and slight symptoms during the first 3 months of taking birth control pills, it may lessen your cycle both in amount of blood and time you bleed and also possible to skip cycles altogether. Just make sure you take them as close to 24 hours apart as you can and don't skip any and you will be safe from pregnancy after your 21rst active pill. Patti
