I'm 20 years old and have mild cystic acne my whole life. I tried every over the counter acne medication, including pro active & Mary Kay products. I finally went to my doctor and he prescribed retin-A gel .25 strength. It's been a little over a month now since I've started using it. My face has been going through the "purging" phase still even after all that time. I wash my face with a natural fash wash before bed, wait 20 mins to apply the medicine, and then moisturizer. Some days I think it might be clearing up and then it will break out again. I still sometimes feel pimples forming underneath the skin, which causes me so much anxiety because I know what's coming. I still have dryness and peeling, although not as bad, but my face is red and irritated looking around my mouth (which is where most of the pimples form). I haven't been on this medication for long and I hear patience is key. But it's so hard to see my skin like this. I'm going to continue for awhile longer but any feedback is appreciated!!!
I've been using the cream for just over a month, and I feel your frustration. My skin is dry and peeling also, but I have noticed that when I do get a new pimple it seems to dry up a lot quicker. I have a lot of dark marks though and make up doesn't always help. But I'm trying to stay positive that it will eventually clear up my skin. Just stay positive and keep doing what you're doing. If you feel concerned after another month make another appointment. Just remember that all the bacteria needs to surface to go away. I'm hopeful that I'll eventually get my skin back to where it was, and I'm sure you'll have all the confidence you need if you keep up your regimen. Good luck!
I am 26 currently going on 27 this year and I have recently started dealing with very bad very deep cystic acne this past year that is also a result from SLE ( systemic lupus eruthematoma) I have not found anything to help with this at all well that will make it better anyways. One of my problems is mine come up in the wrong places and get so much pressure behind them that I have to open them up to get relief on my face so then scabs come up everywhere and won't heal up until about two or three months later even if I keep my face clean and I even went as far as trying to put antibiotic cream on all of them because they just don't go anywhere so my question for you would be should I recommend this gel to my doctor or do I have to see a dermatologist to get this gel? They keep telling me would take too long to get into a dermatologist wouldn't even send a referral in for one. Also I have a lot of scars on my face from all of this and I was wondering is there anything you would recommend or found that has worked for fading scars on the face?
