I read that Melatonin 10 mg pre sleep time is helpful. I used to take it some time ago. Recently I have been taking it regularly, not long enough to have any effect yet. I am looking into Botox Injection for the lip smacking and uncontrollable jaw movements. I replied to a comment Re: botox for TD. New on here and trying to find some relief as well as share... Thank you
I was diagnosed with TD back in February 2016 by my 1st neurologist who turned his non-ALS patients over to another neurologist, who then had my primary doc refer me to UW Madison Movement Disorders Neurology Clinic at the end of this September. The Doc there was great. She confirmed my diagnosis, told me if TD is going to get better for some unknown reason it takes 3 years & if it doesn't then it won't. Then I was told that the meds to counter my TD symptoms had worse side effects than working with therapies to ease my symptoms, so I was set up with a Social Worker who will help me set up services, but before that could happen I lost my balance & got a concussion hitting my head on a brick wall. I am waiting for my concussion related dizzy sick headache & nausea to get better before I start therapy. Good luck finding a med just be sure to Google it to check for side effects with your other meds & contraindications with TD & any other medical conditions you have. Just be sure you only read reputable sources. Don't count on anyone to do it for you. After saying there computer records were up to date, the ER gave me 3 meds in an IV after my concussion 2 of which were contraindicated 1 because of TD. Lesson learned.
