... about everything out there
I have treatment resistant depression. Any suggestions on meds that I might try. I've tried just?

Thanks for all of your responses. Just clarifying-I've been on every class of meds, seen specialists, had blood work etc...and have struggled for over 40 years. Presently I'm on buproprion, SSRI and Abilify.
Hi, b! Sorry to start right off with a barrage of questions, but please bear with me?
Have you tried all classes of antidepressants (TCAs, SSRIs, SNRIs, atypicals)? Have you tried 2 or more in combination? Have you tried augmentation with an antipsychotic like Abilify? Have your thyroid and Vit D levels been tested and have you been checked for anemia? Are you under the care of a GP?
In most cases of treatment-resistant depression there is usually an underlying, undiagnosed cause. A psychiatrist would re-evaluate your history, meds, and current symptoms and possibly try adding mood stabilizers, beta-blockers and/or stimulants to your AD meds. Psychotherapy (not psychological counseling) can also be effective.
I was treated for depression for most of my life with no results at all and my life was hell on earth. Everything out there? I DID try EVERYTHING out there! Finally during my last hospitalization a new psychiatrist (who's now my current psych) did extensive testing and changed my diagnosis to Bipolar disorder. Within just a few weeks on medications specifically used to treat BP I was already feeling like a human being again. Even if you've never had a manic episode, BP should be considered.
Just some ideas and personal experience. Best wishes, WCV
I would also suggest that you see another psychiatrist who specializes in these cases. Depending upon where you live, if USA your state lists certified psychiatrists and if they specialize or if they aren't great and have been disciplined. If your current doc has tried all that, it is time for a new work up. Be sure you take a list of your medications you have tried so you don't spin your wheels. It is so hard to be feeling bad. You deserve much better solutions. BTW it doesn't mean you don't have a good doctor. Simply your doctor is running out of ideas. Good luck in finding that Psychiatrist.
I know how you must feel. My husband went on paxil 15 years ago and it seemed to help for awhile then he became worse. He went from a family doctor to a renowned Psychiatrist in our area. You name it and he's been on it. Still depressed.. :( The only med that helps is zyprexa, and that he takes at night
There are a few things that you can try that are a little different from the standard SSRIs and SSNRIs: Symbyax, (contains ingredients in Prozac with an antipsychotic called Zyprexa) the FDA has approved this for treatment resistant depression; Deplin (enhances effects of other antidepressants); electroconvulsive therapy; transcranial magnetic stimulation; mood stabilizers; cognitive behavioral therapy; meditation. Good luck!
