... on celexa 15 mg. But due to vision problems I am being changed to trazodone 50 mg. I've been on Zoloft, lexapro, Prozac, cymbalta but had problems with side effects I am sensitive to meds, I am 65
trazodone is meant for depression.
The max dose is 400mg for out-patient.
600 mg for inpatient.
It's also used "off-label" for the following problems :
Cocaine or alcohol withdrawal
Prevention of migraines
The 50mg is the lowest beginner dose to see how you tolerate it.
The dose will most likely be increased until you feel relief of depression.
Trazodone is rarely prescribed as an antidepressant anymore, it is more commonly used as a sleep aid because of its side effect profile. At doses high enough to have an antidepressant effect most people find the sedation too much to tolerate. Is there a reason you haven't tried any of the trycyclic antidepressants? St john's wort is also an option that may be worth looking into. I have taken trazodone in the past and found that the side effects were intolerable and it didn't even sedate me.
