I notice that some nights the trazodone works better then others.
Last night I felt a little anxiety, took my .25 mg of Trazodone, but couldn't get to sleep. I was up until about 12-ish, took another quarter of a pill. I eventually I feel asleep and got about 4 hours, which is better then none. I notice some nights ill fall asleep quickly and others it takes a few hours.
Is this common?

My2kin04, That is good you got into the doctor and yes start the 50mg that is much closer for sleep And when or if it stops working talk with your doctor but as far as coming off of it Trazodone is a easy one when your ready talk with the doctor and get instructions..Have a good night sleep. my2kin04, This is what it says on trazodone((((Report any new or worsening symptoms to your doctor, such as: mood or behavior changes, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, or if you feel impulsive, irritable, agitated, hostile, aggressive, restless, hyperactive (mentally or physically), more depressed, or have thoughts about suicide or hurting yourself.
They don't really use this for anxiety but it can help or cause it more the sedative effect can help with anxiety and a good nights sleep. TODAY I think your just upset overthinking everything as you said just upsetting to have to go through all of this in case you don't know take the trazodone with a light snack or crackers to avoid stomach upset. all well work out now.Chuck1957
I went to sleep therapy a while back. I was told not to have a clock in the room you sleep in. Because we watch it. I have the same problem occasional. Like the other post said, if you have a lot on your mind it's more difficult to fall asleep. I hope you have a good night sleep tonight and every other night as well. Pepper
My2.. Sure that is the good thing with trazodone you can always start with the low dose and if your still awake in a hour or so take the other 1/2 of the pill or another 25mg pill in your case I find with my anxiety problems at times 50 does not do it so my doctor has me taking 150mg at bedtime. But i start with the 50mg if that does not put me to sleep I add another etc.Sometimes it's hard just to calm down enough to sleep so even when you get to the 50mg tablets you can always take 1/2 to 1 at bedtime and with luck you may find out the 25mg on most nights for you might be plenty. You can always start lower and add. But if you take the higher dose you can't take less..lol hope this is clear enough if not let me know not a great day today have a good night sleep. and feel free to post anytime if I'm not here we have the best people here you can trust for the right answer,We just share our experience or look up side effects and such. Have a great day Chuck1957
my2kin04 Yes that is right take what you think you need Just don't go over what your doctor has said which I think was 50mg at bedtime without her ok. being your just using it for sleep you can take what you need 25mg or 50mg as needed for sleep. And well not have any ill effects remember we all react a little different on medications I remember when I was only taking 50mg and even that would give me a kind of hang over in the morning for a hour or two meaning really could not wake up but that was only for a few days. And your body and mind get used to the new dose but if you can get by with the 25mg that is just fine.Glad it works so well for you Talk with you later Chuck1957
I tried Trazadone with no luck at all. Even upping the doseage was unsuccessful. I am on 2 mg of Clonazepam before bed as well. This helps but some nights I have to take 2.5 mg. Just bought Passion Flower Elixer but have not tried it yet. Think I should rename myself "BusyBrain" as that is what happens at night. So frustrating & hard to get rid of.
