Desyrel (trazodone) is an antidepressant that increases serotonin activity in the brain. Trazodone is used for depression, anxiety, sleep and pain. Trazodone is not considered to be habit forming but should be taken exactly as prescribed by the doctor. Yes, it works.

Hi Toby,
Trazodone is an "old school" anti-depressant which nowadays is used more for sleep than anything. It may work for some people though and it may work for you. It's not possible to know unless you try it. Some people use in conjunction with a different type of anti-depressant, anti-psychotic, etc. just for the sleep benefit if that is an issue for them. Hope this helps.

In short not well for depression. Some for sleep, espececially elderly. However, insomnia only should warrant drug therapy after failure of COBT-I as per the American academy of sleep medicine and a 2016 review by the American ACademy of physicians practice guidelines free discount card
