Hi. I have been suffering from depression since my childhood. I've been prescribed everything under the sun. To the point where my doctor seems frustrated, and doesn't know what else to give me. Because of various injuries I've suffered in the past, I am always prescribed Tramadol. It's amazing how well it makes me feel. I used to self medicate with alcohol for over 15yrs. I don't even think of drinking, when on this medication. I've heard that some mental health physicians, prescribe it, but my doctor says he can't, because it's for pain. Is there any antidepressants that give you the same euphoria-like feeling that this medication gives, so I can suggest it to my doctor? Thanks in advance
There are medications being studied that have similar mechanisms, but they aren’t out yet. I’m in Recovery, so let me tell you this, we are not supposed to feel like you feel when you take the tramadol. You have to understand that is not how normal people feel. Not only that, when you get euphoria from the tramadol, you’re making your depression deeper when you stop taking it. That’s likely one reason you feel it helping so much - it’s causig part of the depression.
Arganaeri; I am in chronic pain all the time from crushing my leg between cars and Cancer thru my body. I can not agree with my good friend Sidekick more word for word and when you try to get off of Tramadol many people it can be as bad as heroin or you name it. The feeling your getting is not a good one that is also because Tramadol works a lot like an SSRI because it is in many ways. Please talk to the doctor about those and just as Sidekick said they really are working on medications like tramadol like medications. And it's great that you're not mixing this with alcohol. This can get very serious please listen to Sidekick and me. chuck1957 P.S Congratulations Sidekick for the 15 years clean. my hat is off to you. chuck.
I'm in the same boat. I have taken SSRIs many times, nothing really works for me. I saw my father's life ruined by depression, I'm heading in the same direction. I discovered tramadol by accident, first time I took it my depression disappeared like magic for a day. Unfortunately I can't source it, I'm starting to look for an open minded doctor. I won't let stupid laws and narrow minded doctors get in the way of me recovering and being able to take care of my kids. I'm in the US, if anybody can recommend where to look I'll appreciate it.
