I was prescribed Ultram at the hospital to replace my arthritis medicine (Voltaren-diclofenac) because I have been put on a blood thinner (Xarelto) even though they knew I was on hydrocodone. When I got it filled at the drugstore the information with it was in BOLD do not take with vicodin.
Tramadol is a partial opioid antagonist and what this means is that it can partially block opioids from the brain receptors so when you take Tramadol along with an opioid, it can reduce the effectiveness of the opioid. Since it is only a partial antagonist it doesnt completely block the opioid but it has been known to cause withdrawal symptoms in people dependent on opioids. Talk to your Dr and see what he says.
