Hi im currently taking topiramate due to IIH and migraines, im on 75mg morning and night i have the tingling side affect and the memory loss/confusion... but what i really want to know is if anyone as ever continued to take topiramate through pregnancy, me and my partner are planning on trying for our 3rd little bundle of joy in the new year (i will of course talk to my consultant) but the advice and experience of other users is always good to hear thank you in advance... xx
minimac91; You well have to talk with the doctor soon,You want this out of your system long before getting pregnant This is one medication that the risk is far to high to the child. Here is a copy and paste for this medication so talk with your doctor to see how long prior to getting pregnant you should be off of this medication. Chuck1957 Best of luck next year.
Topiramate can cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman. Data from pregnancy registries indicate that infants exposed to topiramate in utero have an increased risk for cleft lip and/or cleft palate (oral clefts). When multiple species of pregnant animals received topiramate at clinically relevant doses, structural malformations, including craniofacial defects, and reduced fetal weights occurred in offspring [see Use in Specific Populations (8.1)].
Consider the benefits and risks of topiramate when administering the drug in women of childbearing potential, particularly when topiramate is considered for a condition not usually associated with permanent injury or death [see Use in Specific Populations (8.9)]. Topiramate should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk. If this drug is used during pregnancy, or if the patient becomes pregnant while taking this drug, the patient should be informed of the potential hazard to a fetus [see Use in Specific Populations (8.1 and 8.9)].
minimac91; Not a problem at all, This is without a dough a medication you don't want in your system during the time of having that beautiful bundle of joy.As you can see from my previous post to you.You might even get some Info from who the prescriber and your OBGYN if still confused. So that you can get this med out of your system in plenty of time for a new baby glad you posted. Chuck1957
