Pain is also in neck. If amoxicillin makes pain go away, do I need to go back to dentist, after 10 days of medication is taken? Or am I all set?
If you had a toothache bad enough to require antibiotic, if it hurt to tap on it, or to bite down, it will come back soon after the antibiotic. There are dental clinics which help with those who can't pay. Call your local Dental Society and ask what to do. Toothaches are horrible.
The amoxicillin was given to kill the infection. Either you need a root canal if tooth is save able or you need it extracted. Either way, you're going to have to take care of it sooner or later. Depends on you & your pain tolerance level on when you want to do the work on your tooth
Thanks, everyone, for your comments. Went to a different dental practice. Dentist explained that antibiotic brings the swelling down..enabling them to take x-Ray that shows which tooth is causing the problem. Since I'd been on the antibiotic for nine days, he took x-Ray and determined it was the wisdom tooth, as I'd thought. Pulled it.
Why prescribing dentist didn't explain this, we'll never know... would have taken him two minutes... and left me with a plan of attack... rather than casting me adrift... and making me feel unworthy of his time. Both my husband and I are making second practice our permanent dentists, as we now spend more time here in the South, rather than in New England.
