welll i have on my right toe, at the top my toenail is dying it is turning white, and im nit sure if its a fungus or what. and on my other big toenail on the left foot i have a horizontal line across the whole nail and looks like its starting to peel up where the line is, its a white line and i hear horizontal white lines on nails are dangerous. what do you think is happening? i have also had bad stomach and back problems for the past year, but im very young so its not normal
It does sound like a fungus from your description, and their is medication both oral and cream and liquid to treat this. The danger with the oral rx med is that it is very hard on the liver and you absolutely can NOT drink alcohol as it could cause serious liver problems. Lamisil cream ( the kind for athletes foot and jock itch) can be rubbed under, and on and around the nails after you have cleaned and dried your feet. It takes 9 months on average for the toenails to grow from the bottom to the tip, so the process is slow. It sounds like you might also be wearing some shoes that cause the crease on the toenails, or injured it and it created the crease. It is true that nails having furrows or creases can be a sign of poor health, but usually it is the vertical lines that indicate heart conditions and it usually appears on more than one toenail or 2. That really does sound fungal.Fungal infections of the nails can be treated, but you need to get rid of your tennis shoes and any shoes that are old, they are harboring fungal spores. Keep the feet as dry as possible.
I have a brother that constantly has this problem, & I finally talked him into going to a podiatrist to get treated. Sometimes if the nail is peeling up as you say like my brother they will have to remove that nail. It doesn't hurt because they will numb your toe, like going to the dentist. The doctor will also prescrible something for all your toenails to stop the fungus infection...
Yes it is see a foot dr you do need a oral med I can't think of the name of it right now it will stop it but please don't peel it or mess with it til you see the dr so it doesn't get worse and spread they will give you a topical spray as well so you don't have to touch with your hands(if u do use glve) gd luck litlmommag-yf
