I am very concerned about this. I am HYPER so after its out am i not gonna have a fast metabolism anymore or will it just be "normal"? I just want to feel better. Whatever it takes. But i would be lying if i said i wasnt a little concerned about weight gain. Thanks
I have had my thyroid out. You will be given a hormone to take, generally synthroid. This is replacing the hormones the thyroid takes. It takes time to adjust your level. Your TSH will be taken every six weeks or so. This says how well your dose is working or if it needs adjustment. Your level ought to be between .3 and 3.0 for the TSH.
If you were gaining weight before the surgery you may well gain weight afterwards. Checked your diet with a dietician so you can adjust what you eat. You were overeating for your metabolism.
If your weight is under control now, you will not gain weight. I actually lost weight. Just remember that your metabolism will change and you need to adjust the amount of food you eat based on whether you are gaining or not. It is up to you to watch that part.so I think you will be ok. Lots of people gain weight, but they had not adjusted their diet.
Good luck on your surgery. It is simple and a sore throat is the most I had. The scar healed quickly and they take care to put it where you already have a crease in your skin. You will be fine. Take care, Karen
