I wasn't sure if anyone has heard of treating thrush and cystic bumps on neck. He said the bumps could be a form of thrush too. Has anyone heard of using lamisil for this?
I have thrush in my throat and have had peculiar bumps on my neck. He gave me lamisil?

No, frankly you could have knocked me over with that one. Thrush is caused by Candida, a yeast. Lamisil is for fungus. I have seen many cases of thrush and I've had it several times. Treatment is nystatin suspension or diflucan. I have never in 45 yrs of being a nurse, seen it treated with lamisil. Google for tinea corporis and find a pic of it, do your bumps look like that? If so, then its ringworm and the lamisil will work for that, although I've had that too, and I used nystatin cream to get rid of it.

I completely agree with you, im boggled with this treatment he chose. I think your absolutely right about the ringworm on my neck. How did I get that??? Next, the thrush I've had before from bouts of prednisone and antibiotics. Never took lamisil for thrush though, he must be treating my neck bumps. Thank you so much, what should I get for thrush???
While Candida Albicans is considered a yeast-it also IS a fungus!! Sorry kaismama-I have to respectfully disagree with you on that one! Thrush is an infection of the mouth caused by the candida fungus, also known as yeast. Candida infection is not limited to the mouth; it can occur in other parts of the body as well, causing diaper rash in infants or vaginal yeast infections in women. You see it called monolial infections sometimes when it affects the skin. Women who get vaginal yeast infections often, their partners can get monolial rash on their penises too. Lamisil WILL clear of Candida on the skin as it is an antifungal but if you have thrush (or Candida) inside the mouth and throat, Lamisil cant be used there. Lamisil is only for skin, not mucous membranes. You will need Nystatin or, better yet, Diflucan can help kill this fungus bodywide.

Thrush can affect anyone, though it occurs most often in babies and toddlers, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems.
What causes thrush?
Small amounts of the candida fungus are present in the mouth, digestive tract, and skin of most healthy people and are normally kept in check by other bacteria and microorganisms in the body. However, certain illnesses, stress, or medications can disturb the delicate balance, causing the fungus candida to grow out of control, causing thrush.
Medications that upset the balance of microorganisms in the mouth and may cause thrush include corticosteroids, antibiotics, and birth control pills. Illnesses or medical situations that make candida infection more likely to develop include uncontrolled diabetes, HIV infection, cancer, dry mouth, or pregnancy (caused by the hormonal changes that occur with pregnancy). People who smoke or wear dentures that don't fit properly also are at increased risk for thrush. In addition, babies can pass the infection to their mothers during breast-feeding.
What are the symptoms of thrush?
Thrush usually develops suddenly, but it may become chronic, persisting over a long period of time. A common sign of thrush is the presence of creamy white, slightly raised lesions in your mouth—usually on your tongue or inner cheeks—but also sometimes on the roof of your mouth, gums, tonsils, or back of your throat. The lesions, which may have a "cottage cheese" appearance, can be painful and may bleed slightly when you scrape them or brush your teeth. In severe cases, the lesions may spread into your esophagus, or swallowing tube, causing:
Pain or difficulty swallowing
A feeling that food gets stuck in the throat or mid-chest area
Fever, if the infection spreads beyond the esophagus
Thrush can spread to other parts of the body, including the lungs, liver, and skin. This happens more often in people with cancer, HIV, or other conditions that weaken the immune system.
How is thrush treated?
While healthy children and adults can be effectively treated for thrush, the symptoms may be more severe and difficult to manage in those with weakened immune systems. Antifungal medications, like Diflucan or Nystatin, which are generally taken for 10 to 14 days, are often prescribed to treat thrush. These medicines are available in tablets, lozenges, or liquids. Your dentist or Dr will have a specific treatment approach designed for you based on your age and the cause of the infection. Because the presence of candida infection can be a symptom of other medical problems, your dentist may suggest you seek care from a medical doctor as well so that any underlying health problems you may have can be treated.
So yes, you may have monolial lesions outside the body although I have never seen them look like cysts. Monolial rash may be a raised red rash that usually looks very spotty on the edges while the center of the rash can look bright red and shiny-almost as if the skin were peeled off. You see thrush a lot in babies whose mothers are prone to vaginal Candida infections. These babies have the white patches on their tongue and cheeks and usually also have the bright red diaper rash. We see older folks in nursing homes get monolial infections under their arms, breasts and in folds of skin if they are heavy, in summer months. These folds will carry a cheesy matter in them indicating that they are Candida fungal infections and the edges of the rash are spotty. these type areas are often treated with Lamisil. I have see that many times. I guess kaismama hasnt seen this or doesnt remember. You might try the Lamisil on the spots to see if it helps but if you have thrush on the mucous membranes, you will need a different medication-either Diflucan or Nystatin.
Oh I thought of that, but it seems like over kill for the conditions he has.
