lets, but I seem to remember starting out at a much lower dose several years ago. Is 10 mg adequate to start, working my way up to 50 mg?
Maybe you where started on that dose due to your previous experience with the medication. Though I started the same medication for the same reason along with insomnia. I am only taken 30mg at night but I am also on Cymbalta for the IC and pudendal neuralgia. Ask your doctor about starting on the lower dosage. Did you gain weight on thsi medication in the past? Years ago I took up to 75MG. To get to sleep but looking back now it helped other things too. if never sure always ask your doctor. Be comfortable and informed.
I started out at 25 mg (mine are compounded - prepared by hand at my pharmacy - as I'm allergic to one of the inactive ingredients) so my capsule is 25 mg. Over 6 months I am now at 75-100 mg a day, in divided doses (50 mg at bedtime, usually 25 by mid morning and another 25 mg in the afternoon if the IC is bad that day. It does help the bladder pain some, where nothing else does. I haven't gained any weight either. Hope this helps you - IC is tough to deal with! Best wishes -
Unless you have the need for a psychotropic drug, even if at 10mg you shouldn't take it until you tried the normal 10mg dose for a trial period(usually a month) and if it doesn't help, you make not feel it but the side effects could still greatly outweigh the benefits... although it's commonly listed in the list of IC meds it does still only work on your brain and it's signaling of pain which can usually be much more safely treated with cognitive and physical therapy.
As a disease of virtually no real understanding (cause, prognosis, or even classification of the disease). However, Elmiron is shown to have great benefits taken throughout time, also diet has been seen to play a large role lately showing promise in organic type foods.
"If the benefits outweigh the risks" as they say, then yes I would not be scared however the dose to 50 or 100 is a big much for IC, if it works for you just keep yourself educated and don't give up that's the best strategy in this type of system.
