every day he wakes up with bad back pain,, in the middle of his back, slso it makes his chest hurt.. what should he do?
He should go to a doctor and have the problem diagnosed. It maybe as simple as a prescription for an anti inflammatory and some physical therapy. You might also investigate a new mattress as his problem seems to be worse when he awakes. He could have fibro, but unlikely if his pain is localized to his back.
My son had this also & even at two he would cry , but wasnt old enough to really tell me what was wwrong, just said "me wegs hurt mommy". so I would massage them til he fell asleep. It wasn't eil grade school that he started having more trouble & it was the middle of his back hurting all the time, but especially while under physical stress. I took him to the ER ine bight i was so bad, & found out he had really bad scoliosis in his mid spine area. This has been quite a few years ago, but the orthopaedic had him exercise special ones of course. One was to hang freely by his hands over a door way we had put a bar arcross so that ehe he wold hand there he sould have his feet off the grond, It helped him alot so far, but he still has bouts of back pain now & again. Just a thought, but definately have him checked outl They can see this on an exray too.
That doctor also told me that he grew too fast as he had stretch marks on his back area I had never seen before. He is very thin & always has been so it's not from being overweight. I thought it strange, but brought me back to lthe memories of his legs hurting so bad at night when he was smaller, & other incidences of pain he compalined about that I just told him were growing pains! Yikes! Kind of made me feel bad as a parent, but assured by the orthopaeudic that I had no one to blame for this condition it just happens at times to certain people. Anyway, now you have my life story, hehe, I would demand an xray of his spine in a laying down like he's sleeping position. May reveal a lot of things to you, & the doctor. I wish you the best...
Please don't ignore your son's complaints and take him to the dr asap. My son compalained of leg pain when I asked him to do his chores. Then I began to notice a limp. I took him to the dr. and luckily I had a good dr who was familar with a rare disorder call perthes disease. We were refered to a ped. ortho. and he was confimed. It was a harroing experince and 21/2 years in a wheel chair during treatment. However had we ignored his complaint he could have been severly cripled for life. Now he is 19 and graduated HS with a batting average of 700. I am one proud momma. He still runs the risk of early onset arthritis, but I am glad we gave him the best possible quailty of life... good luck and best wishes.
