I have some questions to ask everyone who's taking this medication for depression. First off I would like to say I'm a college student that is diagnosed with depression but currently not taking anything for it. I was put on Lexapro when I was 13 up until 14 or 15 years old. Got off of it and my depression would come and go and sometimes also come and stay for months and never leave as of now. I never want to do anything I used to anymore. I feel like a zombie with a deep thick fog in my head. I can't think straight anymore and cannot concentrate in school. It's all making things worse for me and my therapist recommended me to talk to my doctor about Wellbutrin. I'm still not sure about it. I would like everyone's opinions about it.
Like my friend Sweetlemon said, it's like being a guinea pig in that no two people react the same with psych meds. Unfortunately, it is a gamble until you and your doctor hit upon the right med(s) in the right combination. Looking over all that you have tried, I would say (if I may) that you would be a good candidate for Cymbalta; however, it too has the known POSSIBLE side effects or insomnia and increased anxiety. Once you take it a couple of days you would know if it was making things worse. No matter, you need to have open communication with your doctor because you BOTH have to work together to make YOU feel better. If you have complaints or concerns about the meds he/she suggests or prescribes, it is YOUR responsibility to let him/her know. I am not a doctor, BUT I have worked in the psychiatric field for over 15 years. I hope these suggestions help you; you are doing the best thing possible right now by trying to educate yourself. Hang in there and let us know how things are going.
I know this is kind of a late post but my doctor put me on wellbutrin and xanax about 2 weeks ago. I have anxiety and sometimes can not control it. I ive been on and off meds for about 5yrs. (only taken zoloft until now. zoloft worked well but it interacted with other meds im taking so thats why i switched) I have to say so for wellbutrin has worked well for me and I don't use the xanax daily just when im really freaking out so I know it's not the xanax alone causing me to feel better. I would at least try wellbutrin. Im very suprised at how well it works. I had the same worries as you and everyone was telling me it would make my anxiety worse. So far so good though.
to my experience wellbutrin is the only drug that didn't make me foggy, or weird as there was somebody fiddleing with my brain from the inside or zombified..
it made me feel like a "real" person. (still me, myself)
other good points:
the only (i think) antidepressant that didn't make me fat. :-)) and most importantly i didn't lose my libido! :-))
insomnia, yes, but it went after a few weeks.
anxiety. i'm not sure if it increased or if it became more noticible as being something different from depression.. anyway it could be medicated.
obviously this is my very own personal experience and you might react to it completely differently.
