Using a beta blocker such as Atenolol in a patient with an undiagnosed pheochromocytoma can make the patients blood pressure worse.
Once the condition is diagnosed treatment often involves surgery.
However drugs including beta blockers may be given before hand to control the tumors secretions and other symptoms.
