I show most of the symptoms of adrenal insufficiency like skin bronzing of exposed parts, exhaustion etc. I did an 8am test according to which my serum cortisol was 145ng/ml and acth was 25.00. I'm still not convinced. What more tests should I do? I'm considering acth stimulation or cortisol saliva test. Please suggest me something.
If you're seeing an endo he knows what tests have to be done. What are you trying to be convinced of, you have it or you don't. The lab results don't mean much because every lab has different normals of these tests and without having those normals we can't tell what's going on .
Many years ago my doc did a 5 hour (in hospital) insulin or ACTH tolerance test. They give you injections of the substance, then come back every half hour and draw more blood to check your levels. By the time this test was performed I was so sick that there wasn't much question that I already had Secondary Adrenal Insufficiency--- but I'm glad my doc double checked everything!
Good Luck to you!
PS: Check out Mary Shomon's book on Hypothyroidism, as it talks about the Adrenal/Thyroid connection, and she lists a whole page of blood tests that can be run.
