I am on 300mg Neurontin and on 25mg Valium. I would like to taper off the Valium but I tried before and had horrible withdrawal symptoms. So I had to reinstate. I am very sensitive to psych meds or meds like Valium or Neurontin. I need to know a slow schedule to taper off of Neurontin, The Doctor's advice is way too fast for me. That is why my Valium Taper attempt failed. Has anyone had problems tapering off of 300mg Neurontin while also on Valium or another benzo?
Usually people fail at tapers because they go to fast. Drop the Neurontin 100mgs a day and stay at that dose for at least a week if not two. Then drop another 100mgs, etc. Once down to 100mgs for 10 days go to every other day for a couple weeks and then you can stop. You will avoid most withdrawal symptoms this way, but the reason you took the med in the first place may return.
Valium can not be stopped cold turkey due to risk of seizure. Reducing by 5mgs daily every 2 weeks until you are down to 5mgs, then drop to 2mgs for a couple of weeks then everyother day for a couple of weeks. Again, the reason you were taking the med may return.
Do not try and do these tapers at the same time. Choose one or the other first and complete before starting the other.
