I have been on Norco 10 since 2014. I take 4 a day. I don't want to be on them anymore. I am a single mom with a 3 year old son. I am scared my doctor will just kick me out instead of tapering me down. Any advice is appreciated.
I have never heard of a pain management Dr who kicks someone out because they want to go off their narcotics and accept another kind of treatment. That's actually a huge goal of theirs. I'd just tell him that you'd like to see if you can make it without the narcotics, but you'd like to taper down slowly. Ask him to recommend an alternative treatment plan for your condition. Just remember that you've been taking the pain meds for a while now and it may be harder than you think for an alternative treatment to give you the pain relief you've been used to. You can also discuss cutting way back on your current meds and using a smaller dose for breakthrough pain when necessary or leaving the door open to go back on your current medication should you find another treatment just doesn't control the pain long enough. Like I said, most pm Dr's are delighted if a patient wants to be taken off a narcotic and try another treatment plan. I wish you the best of luck with your new treatment plan!
