I am taking Zoloft for panic disoder. I have been taking it for one month. I started at 12.5mg for one week, then 25mg and two weeks at 50mg. I feel it has increased my baseline anxiety and panic attack frequency. I have tried Prozac and viibryd already unsucessfully, I stopped after only a few days due to increased anxiety. Benzos are the only thing that have been effective. I have taken .5mg per night of kolonopin and .5mg of Xanax as needed. Has anyone else experienced this? How long did it take for you to see any benefit? I am wondering if SSRIs are simply not for me or if I should stick it out?
Hello. SSRIs take time to work. Usually a month to three months. There is nothing quick about it. That is why the Xanax has increased a bit. Your dosing is pretty low. I take .25 three times per day while I wait for the new antidepressant we are trying to kick in.
If you really want to know about whether you need serotonin then the doc can run some blood work to determine what you are deficient in.
Mostly, as my doc said on Friday, your body has to calm down for a longer period before you can start feeling the benefits of the antidepressant. Xanax makes me feel like a lump, but the good side is my thoughts are calmer, things bother me less and all in all I am easier to get along with. That gives me time to work with a therapist and get a handle on my crummy health. And people at home see a more normal me.
Hang in there. Give the meds a chance and stay in touch with your doc. You will improve with them over some time. Oh, and I watch only funny movies and tv. Otherwise I can get caught up in that loop of unhappy thoughts. I keep telling myself, this is an illness, i take medicine, I will be better. you will too.
Hello tb176. When it comes to the treatment of anxiety disorders nothing really works as well as a benzodiazepine. All three of the drugs are low in thier doses. In regards to the Xanax, that differs for you take it when needed. Zoloft in regards to panic disorders, on a daily basis, is 100mg. But depending on the severity of the panic attacks, can be upped. to as much as to 150mg-200mg mg however 100mg is the so called norm. If your doctor is willing to treat you only with the Benzodiazepines, (you might know the addictive nature of these drugs) then I'd suggest go that route. Regards, pledge
