Discovered I also have sever rls. Had a sleep study done Waking 29.5 times per hour. Tramadol made it possible for me not to even know my legs were moving. Now I have weened down from 6 tram per day to 1, I am now acutely aware of my legs squirming. Impossible to sleep. I don't want to increase tramadol again. Tonic water does not work. What else can I do? Feels like gerbils doing summersalts in my calves. It's horrible pain.
I'm really surprised that all you've been prescribed for your FM is Tramadol. Although I've never gotten any kind of relief from Tramadol with any pain I've suffered from; it's usually given for pains such as your shoulder pain. Although there is no cure for RLS, it's usually relieved by treating the underlying cause; FM being one of them. You should talk to your rheumatologist. about meds to treat the FM. which would give you some relief from your RLS. When I was first dx with FM, I had to try several different medications until I finally found one that helps, and it does relieve my symptoms of RLS. Also, changing your diet as far as some of things that exacerbate symptoms of RLS will work. You can google for a list of some of those foods. Are you seeing a Rheumatologist for your FM? Tramadol for FM... that just seems strange to me. Unless that's all you can take, I would definitely try other medications prescribed by a Rheumatologist.
Wendy; No you don't want to go up on the Tramadol for RLS talk to your doctor and let him or her know what is going on there are a lot of good medications that you can take that well calm down the Rls and you well be able to rest better. It as you know the Tramadol for most people is very hard to get off of so you don't want to start that cycle again. Give your doctor a call Monday and see what they have to say. hang in there
