I would be discharged this year . I have never had anything else other than a mammogram every year . In march this year 2013 I was tod that I had stage 1 cancer of the uterus & had to have a total Hysterectomy aged 63 yrs that was 5 weeks ago . I was told 2 weeks after op that I don't need any further treatment as the cancer has gone . My question is should I have been checked for this type of cancer as I was told it was the Tamoxifen that caused it so had to stop taking it but given nothing else ?
As with anything else, a doctor can't treat a condition until it develops. At stage 1, your uterine cancer was caught early, which is a blessing. Apparently, the tamoxifen, lumpectomy and radiotherapy took care of the breast cancer, so there was nothing for them to treat until March of 2013 when your uterine cancer was found. I am so happy for you that pathology showed that all of your uterine cancer was removed surgically, leaving no need for further treatment. That is wonderful news!
