Don't know whether to stop cold or gradually wean myself off. Don't need an antidepressant any more.
Don't think you're cured, just because you feel good on meds. You have to be weaned off of it, and you should do it with your doctor. Too many people think that because they feel good when they are taking meds they are cured. That doesn't happen and you could be right back in depression again.
Whatever you reason for wanting to stop, contact your doctor. You will have to lower your dosage slowly. If you want to stop because you feel better, then you need to rethink that. You feel better because of the meds. Going off them could be a disaster.
Please contact your doctor and get some professional advice.
If you had diabetes would you try and come off insulin? The question is whether you need to continue to take antidepressants or not from a purely clinical point of view. Some people have a long term deficiency and need long term treatment. Even doctors talk about 'coming off' treatment - which I take to mean they think it is negative to be on treatment - this can sometimes be an indication of their own stigmatisation of mental illness.
