My PM doc I am now seeing has prescribed Oxycontin 10mg twice a day. The Oxycontin doesn't seem to work as well on my pain. I was taking 5 Norco a day before. I am concerned about talking to my new PM about a higher dose of Oxycontin, but I am in so much pain, especially at night. Has anyone else had this decreased response?
When you take an extended release med you should also have something to take that is immediate release for break thru pain. What you do is tell him just what you told us, you had more relief from the norco. Oxy is stonger so when he gets the dose right you should do fine. Tell him what you cannot do now that you could do then. That can be a problem because if you're like me, I still do it, so I have to tell him I can't do such and such without my pain level going higher than it was before. Don't ask for an increase. You kind of have to make him see you need an increase.
I feel for you as I suffer from diabetic nerve pain for over 4 years..I got prescribed OxyContin about a year and aen crappy before that I was taken crappy norcos we do not work for a diabetic nerve pain I started that 20 milligram OxyContin cotton and describe percocet at the same time 10 milligram..my doctor want to raise the dose of oxycontin high enough so I wouldn't need percocet anymore..I got raised up to 60 milligram oxycontin 1 tablet 2 times a day and that finally worked..didn't take all the pain away but it took about 85% of it to 90% which was awesomeI would say didn't last 12 hoursmaybe almost 10 hours the oxycotins would last..so I would kind of overlap them meaning I would take them every 10 hours..everybody's body is different I hope you find relief soon friend
