13 year old daughter was diagnosed last December. It's in both hands. Also has psoriasis. Takes methotrexate and naproxen. I'm worried about safety and side affects.
After awhile she will most likely not be able to take Methotrexate, due to nausia. I went from Methotraxate to Arava and then onto Enbrel. The effects of the Enbrel were near immedaite and have pretty much stopped the pain in the joints that were being effected.
My doctor explained that we do not know what I have and so he treats the symptoms with what has worked for others with similar issues. The sooner you treat these diseases the less amount of permenant damage that is done.
As far as psoriasis goes, I battled it every day of my life from arounfd the age of six until now. Enbrel has reduced my battle to once a week instead of every, single day. Good luck to your duaghter.
