I started taking antidepressants for severe anxiety and OCD. I have been on them for 20 years, and have changed melds over and over. My current doctor just keeps increasing them, and I am worried about taking so much. I currently take venlafaxine 225mg per day., trazodone 450mg per day and anafranil, 150mg per day. Does anyone know how these doses compare with others'? I still have symptoms of ocd, and still experience insomnia about 3 nights per week. My doctor will not give any benzodiazepines but I am given ambien as needed. I wonder if my symptoms wouldn't be better treated with Valium, Xanax or something like that, instead of constantly increasing my doses?
I tend to agree with you. I have OCD and suffer from insomnia every night. My doctor keeps increasing or changing my meds too e.g. Zoloft to Prozac. to Effexor. etc., and this has been occurring over the past 17 years. Medications, of course, work differently on everyone, but for me, Valium helps late in the evening to calm me down enough to finally get some sleep. Also at some point, after being on so many medications that are continually being increased, our bodies become immune. Talk to your doctor about your concerns, and ask to be given something different. If he won't, or even if you feel the doctor really isn't listening to you, maybe its time to change doctors.
